Binance gets licence in France

Binance has registered its services with the dual regulatory structure in France, which includes the Autorité des Marchés Financiers (AMF) and the Autorité de Contrôle Prudentiel et de Résolution (ACPR).

After a year of heavy regulatory scrutiny, the new approval will help the crypto giant in boosting its operational plans across the European continent.

The new license allows Binance to offer regulated services under legislation governing operations of digital asset service providers (DASPs), namely France’s PACTE law, one of the first crypto legislative packages passed in Europe.

The world’s largest cryptocurrency exchange by trading volume has been already on the hunt for new headquarters in France. For this purpose, they financed a 100 million euro initiative together with a local nonprofit entity to support the blockchain and cryptocurrency sector in France.

Binance France has secured a digital asset service provider registration, which enables its Paris-based business to offer trading and custody services for cryptocurrencies on its platform. It also helps boost Binance’s ambitions in Europe after it has been on shaky ground last year, with regulators in the UK and elsewhere putting the exchange under intense scrutiny.

Fintech Study Estimates 4.4 Billion Global Users Will Adopt Mobile Wallets by 2024.

According to a recently published study by Merchant Machine, mobile wallets are predicted to have 4.4 billion users by 2024. Merchant Machine’s findings show the global pandemic propelled the popularity of digital wallets and researchers expect the numbers to grow from 44.50% of the population in 2020 to 51.70% by 2024.

The use of mobile wallets has grown a great deal since the start of the Covid-19 pandemic and a study published by Merchant Machine predicts growth will continue. The researchers note that since 2015, the total revenue generated by mobile wallet applications has tripled, and by 2022, it’s expected to be around $1,639.5 trillion.

“The safety, security, and convenience of digital wallets, as well as the popularity of smartphones and general digitalisation of society, were among the main reasons for the popularity of this method,” Merchant Machine’s study details. Furthermore, the research explains the top mobile payment platforms in 2022.

Cuba’s Central Bank to License VASPs Starting May

The Central Bank of Cuba will soon start issuing licenses to virtual asset service providers in the country, which will be valid for one year but can be extended for a second year.

The Central Bank of Cuba (BCC) is planning to issue licenses for virtual asset service providers (VASPs) starting next month, the Official Gazette said in a post on 26 April.

According to the announcement, VASPs in Cuba will soon need to acquire a license from the country’s central bank in order to provide services in the region. The new license will be available for individuals as well as organizations and will be valid for a year, though its validity can be extended for a second year. The BCC’s resolution reads:

“The Central Bank of Cuba, when considering the license request, evaluates the legality, opportunity and socioeconomic interest of the initiative, the characteristics of the project, the responsibility of the applicants and their experience in the activity.”

The bank’s resolution also noted that the new VASP license regulation will enter into force 20 days after its publication, which will be 16 May, and that failure to meet compliance will be faced with penalties in line with existing banking and financial rules and regulations.…
